Letter: We can only blame ourselves for disappearing paradise
Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
People want to go back to the way things were, but no one can ever go back. Las Vegas is forever changed, including the vacant desert that once was a refuge to some. It's nice that we have pictures of how things were and epic accounts from those who experienced life here in different times. Through their words, actions and pictures, we can travel back in our minds and appreciate our past, but things change and nothing can ever revert to the way it once was.
Even our natural environment is a steadily evolving cosm which no one can preserve, much less control to the point that change there also stops.
Things were not manipulated when once we had a chance for positive results. We are a nation of apathetics. We join unions but won't attend union meetings. We elect politicians but won't force our political representatives to truly represent our values. If things aren't the way they once were, whose fault is it? Go look in the mirror and find the answer.
