Letter: Children’s home vital for young people
Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
I agree that a home environment is ideal for most children and would love to think every abused and neglected child can have a warm nuturing home to live in. The truth is these children have special needs and their placement in homes doesn't always work out.
There security is at times only as good as their behavior. Can you imagine living in a home where at any given moment someone can pick up a phone and have you removed? A group environment is sometimes a better solution. A group home offers a benefit to sibling groups that would otherwise rarely see each other.
I worry about losing another resource for the children. As we reduce our choices, we greatly reduce the proper choice.
