Letter: Associations provide good protection for homeowners

Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.

No one is forced into purchasing a home in an association. Those of us, who do not want our homes devalued by neighbors who decide to paint their home green with purple polka dots or repair cars in their driveway or on the street or park campers in front of their house, look for association-governed neighborhoods. If you think these examples are far-fetched, they are not. These things have happened in neighborhoods where there is no association.

If you have ever had difficulty in selling a home because of these or similar problems, you will never buy in an association-free neighborhood again. Unless, of course, you are the person who wants to paint your house in polka dots.
