The city of North Las Vegas has begun an Adopt-A-Roadway Litter Abatement Program.
Participating organizations will be given orange vests and trash bags from the Public Works Department. They will coordinate the pick up and disposal of trash in approved areas.
Participating groups will receive recognition by having a sign posted at the beginning of their adopted roadway section. They also will be recognized through press releases.
"We are looking forward to partnering with the community on this far-reaching program," Conni Olinger, project coordinator, said.
"We anticipate that this program will promote a sense of civic responsibility, community pride and organizational camaraderie, while saving taxpayers dollars."
The program is similar to the Nevada Department of Transportation's litter abatement program and several others across the nation.
