Letter: All Americans are silenced when media are punished
Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
I am referring to a story ABC did, informing us about tainted meat being sold to the public. ABC possibly saved lives and the health of many. They are being fined millions, not because the story was false, but because trickery was used.
Law enforcement uses tricks to get the bad guys. Any objections? Walk in any courtroom, sit through a few trials and observe the tricks.
If our politicians were in the bakery business, you can imagine what pretty frostings would be decorating old cakes. Bet they could sell them to us and make us eat them too.
When tricks are used for the truth and to benefit us all and to inform us all of what is happening, then I hope ABC has a bagful of tricks and uses them all.
Another of our amendments is being challenged, freedom of the press. Who will be next and where will it stop? If this happens, I hope you realize the alternative: silence for us all.
