Horry latest injured Laker

Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.

The Lakers learned Monday that starting forward Robert Horry will join center Shaquille O'Neal on the sidelines until at least the beginning of April because of an injured left knee.

Horry, acquired by the Lakers from the Phoenix Suns last month, has a medial collateral ligament sprain in his knee and will be out a minimum of six weeks, team physician Stephen Lombardo said.

Horry's knee will be placed in a brace, and he will start physical therapy immediately.

"I feel bad for him, he's one of those guys who love to play," teammate Eddie Jones said of Horry. "I'm going to call him up, I'm going to cheer him up, keep his head right.

"I think we'll be all right. When injuries occur, people have to stand up. The games don't stop because of injuries."

Horry was hurt early in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 102-91 loss to Seattle when Lakers forward Jerome Kersey fell backward and into his left leg.

O'Neal, the NBA's fourth-leading scorer and rebounder, injured his left knee last Wednesday night in the first quarter of a game in Minnesota. A day later, it was announced he would miss a minimum of 8-10 weeks.
