Settlements planned with students

Lawyers for the Clark County School District have recommended the district pay $100,000 to settle two claims involving student injuries.
The students were injured in separate accidents on their school campus, said Stephanie Barker, the school district's assistant general counsel. They will each receive $50,000.
Saying that student records are confidential, Barker would not release details about the injuries other than that one happened in the 1994-95 school year and another in the 1995-96 school year.
Barker said that because the accidents occurred on school property, the school district held some liability. She said it would have been more costly to have taken the claims to court than to offer the settlements.
In these type of instances, Barker said, the school district tries to settle the claims as reasonably as possible without forcing the parents into litigation.
