Reno Hilton President Ferenc Szony stepping down
Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
"Based on the company's restructuring, I am not going to be departing the property until Feb. 21 and will continue to oversee operations until then," Szony told the Reno Gazette-Journal.
Szony, 41, said a senior vice president will take over the job after he leaves. He would not comment on his future with the company, the newspaper said.
Kathy Shepard, spokeswoman for Hilton Hotels Corp. in Beverly Hills, Calif., said Hilton is "going to be doing some reorganization in the senior management positions" company-wide.
Shepard said changes also are expected at the Flamingo Hilton in downtown Reno but she would not elaborate.
"Until then, we don't want to comment on any specific positions," she said.
The announcement of Szony's departure comes amid Hilton Hotel's $6.5 billion hostile takeover attempt of ITT Corp.
ITT today rejected Hilton's offer that would have created the world's largest owner of hotels and casinos and said it will file a lawsuit in federal court to try to block it it.
