In 1993, he led the Phillies to the National League pennant, and was named Manager of the Year by The Associated Press.
During an 18-year major league career, Fregosi played for the Angels, the New York Mets, the Texas Rangers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The six-time All-Star shortstop was a .265 hitter with 151 homes runs and 706 RBI.
A San Francisco native, Fregosi played at Menlo College and Serra High School in San Mateo.
