Second driver dead after crash
Monday, Feb. 10, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
The second person killed by a driver who ran a red light in eastern Las Vegas has been identified as Jeffrey Kimura, 26, of Las Vegas.
Kimura was westbound on Vegas Valley Drive waiting to make a left-hand turn onto southbound Nellis Boulevard at 3:44 p.m. Thursday when his 1995 Mazda four-door was struck on the driver's side by a 1988 Ford Mustang and knocked almost 20 yards, police said.
Investigators have determined that Alexander Gendron, 34, of Las Vegas had taken the Mustang from a relative at a nearby apartment complex and had reached at least 60 mph when he sped through the Nellis-Vegas Valley intersection and hit Kimura's car, disregarding the red light, police said.
Gendron was killed on impact. Kimura died later at University Medical Center.
Larry Taylor, 55, was able to walk away from the accident. Taylor's 1987 Toyota two-door was struck by Kimura's Mazda seconds after the collision in the intersection.
