- Bob Essensa, Oilers, stopped 30 shots as Edmonton beat Washington 4-1.

STARRING AGAIN

Dallas center Neal Broten, the franchise's career leading scorer, who was re-signed Jan. 28, scored with 43 seconds left in overtime to give the Stars a 2-1 victory over Los Angeles on Sunday night. Broten, waived by the Kings, has three goals in his last three games.

STOPPER

Buffalo's Dominik Hasek made 32 saves in a 2-1 victory over Ottawa on Sunday night, raising his career record against the Senators to 15-0-1. Hasek has led the Sabres to a 4-0-3 record in their last seven games and has allowed just eight goals, but only one in the first two periods since Jan. 29. Buffalo is 22-3-3 when its scores the first goal of a game.

SHUTTING OFF THE POWER

Florida beat the New York Rangers 4-3 on Sunday night and held the Rangers' power play, the NHL's best, to one goal in five opportunities. The low-scoring Panthers scored two power-play goals in four chances.

SUBBING

Edmonton backup Bob Essensa made 30 saves as the Oilers beat Washington 4-1 on Sunday. Essensa, who has played sparingly this season while backing up Curtis Joseph, earned his fourth victory of the season.

STARTING TO RECOVER

The Calgary Flames beat Anaheim 6-1 on Sunday to improve to 4-2 in their last six games. The Flames opened the season 7-4-1, but have won just 14 of their last 43 games, including their current 4-2 streak.

SCOUTING

Detroit goalie Rich Parent made 39 saves as Vipers beat the Cleveland Lumberjacks 3-1 in the IHL on Sunday night.
