Donations can aid tortured cat

Monday, Feb. 10, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.

An Associated Press story about a cat tortured with a blow torch in San Francisco prompted several calls to the SUN newsroom.

Readers responding to the story in Thursday's SUN wanted to know where they could send donations to help pay for the cat's medical bills.

Donations may be sent to: San Francisco SPCA, 2500 16th St., San Francisco, CA 94103. The SPCA may also be contacted at (415) 554-3050.

The cat, a 3-year-old stray Siamese mix named Alley, was brought to the San Francisco SPCA hospital last Tuesday. Its right leg was charred to the bone and most of its tail was gone. Veterinarians amputated its leg and most of its tail, but the cat is expected to survive. Alley wandered the streets for almost a week in its injured condition.

An SPCA spokeswoman said she has a page and a half full of names of people wishing to adopt Alley when he is released from the hospital in about a month.
