Here is a breakdown of gaming profits for five years in the state, all of the casinos on the Las Vegas Strip and all downtown Las Vegas clubs:

* 1996: State, $1.3 billion, or 10.6 percent profit on sales; Strip, $973.6 million or 14.2 percent; Downtown Las Vegas $20.4 million, 2 percent.

* 1995: State, $1.2 billion, 10.6 percent; Strip, $764.5 million, 11.7 percent; Downtown $78.3 million, 8 percent.

* 1994: State, $1.2 billion, 11.1 percent; Strip $610.4 million, 10.6 percent; Downtown, $62.2 million, 6.4 percent.

* 1993: State, $1.1 billion, 11.9 percent; Strip, $593.7 million, 12.6 percent; Downtown, $55.8 million, 5.6 percent.

* 1992: State, $848.6 million, 9.3 percent; Strip $397.1 million, 8.9 percent; Downtown $28.3 million, 3 percent.
