Fire destroys home in Indian Springs
Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997 | 11:14 a.m.
Fire destroyed an Indian Springs home this morning, sending three family members to the hospital.
Amber Apodaca, 9, awoke at 5:44 a.m. to a beeping fire alarm and found the floor engulfed in flames, said Steve La-Sky, Clark County Fire Department spokesman.
Amber, her mother Diane Apodaca, 45, and father, Paul Apodaca, 49, suffered smoke inhalation and second- and third-degree burns on their legs while fleeing their home in the Pecan Grove mobile home park, La-Sky said. Diane Apodaca was treated and released from University Medical Center and Paul and Amber were expected to be discharged later this morning.
A fire crew from the U.S. Air Force Base at Indian Springs responded first to the fire, and were assisted by Clark County and volunteer firefighters.
Damage has been estimated at $50,000. La-Sky said the family lost everything and that the father is currently on disability. American Red Cross and Deseret Industries were providing food and temporary shelter.
