The bus carrying 34 students from Galena High School was at the intersection of South Virginia Street and South Meadows Parkway when the accident occurred Dec. 15.
Witnesses said the cab went under the bus and caught fire, but the bus driver managed to pull away from the burning vehicle.
The cab driver, Tommy Johnson, 42, suffered only scrapes.
Bus driver Theagail Brautigam, 46, was charged with running a red light. She has driven for the Washoe County School District for seven years and has no previous traffic incidents, school officials said.
