No free lunch for school athletes

The Elko County School District has trimmed $550,000 from its budgets because of lower enrollments than anticipated. And that is costing Spring Creek High $24,000.
The school's athletic department has asked competitors to brown bag or to queue up at the local burger joint, according to Athletic Director Jack Peavey.
"We're just trying to do our part to help things along, so we're asking kids to feed themselves on these trips," he told the Elko Daily Free Press.
