McCarran International Airport said November passenger traffic of 2.4 million people was up 3.3 percent from November 1996. But for the year, traffic of 28 million people is down one tenth of one percent at a time when Las Vegas hotel-casinos are trying to fill nearly 10 percent more rooms.
Scheduled carriers reported 2.1 million passengers in November. Southwest Airlines, the largest carrier at McCarran with 30 percent of the local market, reported a 1.7 percent increase.
America West, United and Delta posted small decreases from last year, but airport executives were encouraged by the overall increase.
"November's passenger traffic count represents our largest increase since January of this year," said Randall Walker, Clark County aviation director.
