Green Valley and Basic won the Sunrise Division's boys' and girls' titles, respectively, in the Clark County School District Bowling League while Cheyenne's boys and Durango's girls took home championships in the Sunset Division.
However, Durango was upset by Chaparral at the Southern Conference girls bowling tournament Monday. Las Vegas, Basic and Bonanza advanced with the Cowboys to the semifinals with first-round victories.
On the boys' side, Cheyenne, Silverado, Green Valley and Durango advanced to semifinal action at the Orleans Bowling Center.
Green Valley's boys won the Sunrise title with a 66-6 mark. The Gators were followed by Silverado (60-12), Las Vegas (58-14), Basic (47-25), Vo-Tech (36-36), Chaparral (29-43), Eldorado (28-44), Valley (18-54), Rancho (11-61) and Boulder City (7-65). Ron Harbinson of Green Valley finished the season with the Sunrise's top boys' game, a 300; teammate Chris Klerk had a 735 series, as did Las Vegas' Danny Lilly.
Basic's girls captured their championship with a 55 1/2-16 1/2 record. The Wolves finished ahead of Las Vegas (53-19), Green Valley (50-22), Chaparral (46-26), Boulder City (39-33), Silverado (38-34), Eldorado (35-37), Rancho (20-52), Valley (18 1/2-53 1/2) and Vo-Tech (5-67). Becky Chorn of Las Vegas had the high game of the season with a 257; Eldorado's Robin Lee the high series with a 645.
In the Sunset, Cheyenne's boys compiled a 58-6 record on the way to the crown. The Desert Shields were followed by Durango (51 1/2-12 1/2), Cimarron-Memorial (47-17), Western (43 1/2-20 1/2), Bishop Gorman (24-40), Bonanza (21-43), Clark (20-44), Palo Verde (13-51) and Mojave (10-54). Sean Grossman of Western had the division's high game of the year with a 300; Cheyenne's Roger Noordhoek the high series with a 677.
Durango's girls capped off an amazing regular season with a 63-1 mark. The Trailblazers were followed by Bonanza (53-11), Cimarron (44-20), Western (40-24), Clark (29-35), Cheyenne (24 1/2-39 1/2), Palo Verde (22 1/2-41 1/2), Gorman (9-56) and Mojave (3-61). Amber Murata of Western had the high game in the division this fall with a 265; Erika Murata of Western the high series with a 624.
