Ely Municipal Judge wants out
Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997 | 11:11 a.m.
The Ely City Council approved advertising for a new municipal judge after Niman said he had had it with the job. Council member Randy Conner said the problem arose with the clerk's office, but did not go into detail.
He just said Niman's message to the city is, "Get someone quick," the Ely Daily Times reported.
Niman, a former justice of the peace, was temporarily appointed judge in September at a salary of $250 a week to fill in for G. L. Critchfield until a permanent successor could be found.
Critchfield resigned just weeks after he was appointed by Mayor Jack Smith. He said he stepped down to take a job out of state, but added that he was bored silly in a job that averaged about three cases a week.
