Letter: Let casinos, tourists pay for new water pipeline

Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997 | 2:12 a.m.

If "we" who are not property developers in Green Valley don't vote to raise "our" tax, the new-home buyers will have to pay their "fair share" for new hookups. The people who water exclusive golf courses where I don't play will have to pay more to water the greens. The folks who check into resorts with major water themes will have to be charged more for their rooms.

If we raised the gaming tax on slots by 1 percent, it would be pari-mutual. If you put one dollar in the machine and lost, would you know it? If you hit a $14 million megabuck jackpot, would you miss $14,000 less?

Of course, some developers would have to spend several hundreds of millions less on projects in Michigan and New Jersey or even not go broke on a riverboat.
