Michigan K-Wings 5, Cleveland Lumberjacks 2

KALAMAZOO, Mich.--The Michigan K-Wings (9-6-6) scored three times in the first period on their way to a 5-2 win over the Cleveland Lumberjacks (12-8-3) Saturday at Wings Stadium. Michigan's win, their third straight at home, snapped a four-game unbeaten streak for the Central Division-leading Jacks. Marty Flichel scored Michigan's first two goals, both in the first period. Jamie Wright also scored in the first. Jeff Mitchell made the score 4-0 at 14:18 of the second period, and Chris Tancill added a third-period tally. Joe Dzedzic put Cleveland on the board with less than a minute left in the second period, and Todd Harkins pulled the Jacks within two at 3:22 of the third. Jordan Willis stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced in goal for the K-Wings. Cleveland starter Derek Wilkinson faced 14 shots and made 11 saves in the first period, then left the game for Mike Tamburro, who snagged 22 of 24.

Fort Wayne Komets 3, Cincinnati Cyclones 2

FORT WAYNE, Ind.--Defenseman Ed Campbell scored at 6:14 of the second period to give the Fort Wayne Komets (9-11-1) a 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones (11-8-3) Saturday in front of 6,643 at Memorial Coliseum. First period goals by Dan Currie and Andrei Bashkirov gave the Komets a 2-0 lead. Konstantin Shafranov and Viacheslav Butsayev finished with two assists apiece. The Cyclones rallied for two goals in the second period, by Mike Casselman at :15 and Don Biggs at 15:56. Bruce Racine made 36 saves on 38 Cincinnati shots to help Fort Wayne to their second straight win. Cincinnati's Todd MacDonald faced 31 shots and made 28 saves.

Grand Rapids Griffins 4, Detroit Vipers 1

AUBURN HILLS, Mich.--Marc Greig had two goals and an assist, and goalie Patrick Lalime made 37 saves in his first appearance of the season, to lead the grand Rapids Griffins (16-7-0) to a 4-1 win over the Detroit Vipers (11-7-5) Saturday night. The Northeast Division rivals met before an IHL record crowd of 20,804 at The Palace. Michel Picard, who assisted on both of Greig's third-period goals, put Grand Rapids on the board at 2:56 of the second period. Detroit's Clayton Beddoes evened the score at 11:16, but Sean Tallaire put the Griffins ahead for good on a power play with 1:13 left in the period. Glen Metropolit also picked up a pair of assists for Grand Rapids, who took only 15 shots to Detroit's 38. Vipers goalie Johan Hedberg finished with 11 saves.

Indianapolis Ice 3, Orlando Solar Bears 2 (SO)

INDIANAPOLIS--Shootout goals by Martin Gendron and David Hymovitz pushed the Indianapolis Ice (10-14-0) past the Orlando Solar Bears (11-7-4) 3-2 Saturday before 6,888 at Market Square Arena. Eric LeCompte brought the Ice back from a 2-1 deficit at 19:19 of the third period, setting the stage for the tiebreaker. Dmitri Nabakov opened the Indianapolis scoring at 12:54 of the second period, but Orlando's Eric Nickulus equalized within a minute. Kelly Fairchild gave the Solar Bears a 2-1 lead at 4:32 of the third. Winning goalie Kirk Daubenspeck snared 26 of the Solar Bears' 28 shots in regulation. Orlando's Scott LaGrand stopped 27 of 29.

Utah Grizzlies 3, San Antonio Dragons 0

SAN ANTONIO--Mark Lawrence scored one goal and assisted on another as the Utah Grizzlies (14-6-4) shut out the San Antonio Dragons (7-15-2) 3-0 Saturday in front of 2,829 at Freeman Coliseum. Kip Miller extended his point-scoring streak to 11 games with the winning goal, at 3:17 of the opening period. Lawrence made the score 2-0 on a power play at 5:45 of the third, and Fred Knipscheer netted the Grizzlies' second power play goal of the game at 11:05. Goalie Wade Flaherty made 36 saves to send the Dragons to their sixth loss in seven starts. Pokey Reddick stopped 28 of 31 for San Antonio.

Chicago Wolves 7, Quebec Rafales 3

ROSEMONT, Ill.--Chris Marinucci, Ravil Gusmanov and Steve Maltais each scored twice to help the Chicago Wolves (16-5-2) to a 7-3 win over the Quebec Rafales (10-13-2) Saturday night. The Wolves picked up their sixth straight home win in front of 9,123 at the Rosemont Horizon. Jamie Baker, who, along with Maltais and Gusmanov, assisted on two goals apiece, rounded out the Wolves' scoring. The Rafales, who have lost six straight road games, scored once in each period. Scott Malone scored in his first appearance for the Rafales, just 18 seconds after the opening faceoff. Marc Rodgers added a goal in the second stanza, and Francis Bovillon in the third. Ray LeBlanc picked up the win in goal, with 29 saves on Quebec's 32 shots. Frederick Deschesne faced 36 and stopped 29 for the Rafales.

Milwaukee Admirals 6, Houston Aeros 4

MILWAUKEE--The Milwaukee Admirals (13-8-1) broke open a close game with three third-period goals to take a 6-4 win over the Houston Aeros (14-8-2) Saturday before 9,451 at the Bradley Center. Mark Visheau, who assisted on Joe Frederick's goal 2:14 into the final period, snapped a 4-4 tie with the winning goal at 12:36. Mike Harder added an insurance tally at 17:20. Sean McCann gave the Admirals a 1-0 lead with a shorthanded goal 6:15 into the game, then picked up the first of his three assists on Eric Fenton's tally at 16:47. The Admirals didn't score again until the final minute of the second period, when Dave Mackey beat goalie Ryan Bach. Jeff Tory scored first for Houston, at 19:40 of the first period. Power play goals by David Oliver and Rob Valisevic within a six-second span of the second stanza gave the Aeros a 3-2 lead. Mike Hawgood scored in the third. Admirals goalie Mike Torchia made 20 saves on 24 Houston shots. Bach stopped 31 of 37 chances.

Kansas City Blades 6, Manitoba Moose 0

KANSAS CITY--Kansas City Blades goalie Jeff Salajko made 27 saves to earn his first IHL shutout, 6-0 over the Manitoba Moose Saturday at Kemper Arena. The win was KC's second in as many nights over the Moose, and boosts their record to 10-11-3. Manitoba falls to 9-14-1. Shawn Heins scored twice and added an assist to pace the Blades' attack. Claudio Scremin and Dale Craigwell each had a goal and an assist. Mark Ferschweiler and David Bruce had single goals, and J.F. Quintin and Jason Cirone each picked up two assists. Moose netminder Fred Brathwaite made 23 saves on the Blades' 29 shots.

Las Vegas Thunder 2, Long Beach Ice Dogs 1 (SO)

LAS VEGAS--Ilya Byakin scored the winning shootout goal as the Las Vegas Thunder (13-10-3) edged the Long Beach Ice Dogs (16-9-2) 2-1 Saturday in front of 5,584 at The Thomas & Mack Center. Byakin's goal was the Thunder's fourth of the five-round tiebreaker. The win was Long Beach's fifth in a row, and first in six games against the Ice Dogs this season. Steve Bancroft broke a scoreless tie to give Las Vegas the lead at 11:19 of the third period. Assists went to Joe Day and Jesse Belanger, who is second to teammate Patrice Lefebvre on the IHL scoring chart with 19 goals and 17 assists. Vitali Yachmenev put Long Beach back in the game at 17:32, scoring with assists from Victor Ignatjev and Doug Ast. Winning goalie Tim Cheveldae stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced in regulation, and held the Ice Dogs to three goals in the shootout. Jamie Storr turned away 34 of 35 for Long Beach.
