Blame it on Texas

Monday, Dec. 1, 1997 | 11:37 a.m.

"Many honky tonk moons from now, Mark Chesnutt's legacy will be some of the best country music recorded in the 1990s," predicted USA Today.

He has country in his voice, his songs, and especially his blood. "Mark Chesnutt gives us country in the tradition of Texas legends Willie Nelson, George Jones and George Strait," wrote the Dallas Morning News.

"I've never tried to be anything other than what I am. Never could be," said the 1993 Country Music Association Horizon Award winner.

Over the past six years, Chesnutt's rich honky-tonk sound has allowed him to rack up 10 No. 1 singles, three platinum albums, two gold albums, and his Greatest Hits album also went gold a mere 10 months after its release.

Chart-topping began with his very first release, Too Cold at Home. Since then he has never had to look back. Following the success of his first venture, the list of hits songs flows like the Rio Grande: "Bubba Shot the Jukebox," "Blame It on Texas," "Your Love is a Miracle," "Gonna Get a Life" and "Almost Goodbye," to name a few.

The Los Angeles Times hailed Chesnutt as "the best pure country singer in the New Country crop."

His latest release Thank God For Believers, the title cut and first single from Chesnutt's seventh album, has taken the country by storm. It has already become a favorite with country fans everywhere. Some say this may be his best album yet. If that's true, Chesnutt has a lot of other singers quakin' in their boots.

Chesnutt rolls into The Orleans, Dec. 4-6, and he will be singing the National Anthem at the National Finals Rodeo the night of Dec. 4.
