* MOTEL DAMAGED -- A predawn fire today caused minor damage to a Main Street motel, the Las Vegas Fire Department said. Two rooms were damaged at the Imperial Motel, 1326 S. Main, during the 4:45 a.m. blaze that sent the two occupants fleeing through a rear window, fire officials said. Fire units arrived to find both rooms of the 16-unit, one-story, wood-frame building ablaze, but quickly contained it to that area. Damage was estimated at $5,000. Investigators believe the fire was set outside the motel. The flames blocked the doors of the two units. The fire remains under investigation.
* TAVERN HIT -- Two men blasted open the door to Beano's tavern with a shotgun early today, but fled in a car without completing their robbery, Metro Police said. A bartender suffered a cut on his arm from flying debris and a customer at the end of a bar suffered what police called minor injuries from a few pellets. "The bartender heard the door buzzer, but when he saw no one was there, he wouldn't open the door," Metro robbery Sgt. Rocky Alby said of the 2:30 a.m. incident at 7200 W. Lake Mead Blvd. in northwest Las Vegas. One of the two men then fired three rounds into the door, Alby said, noting that the two men ran to their car, a two-door blue-gray vehicle, and fled. The men wore baseball caps, bandanas across their faces and gloves, witnesses told police.
