Interchange at Ann Road opens

Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997 | 9:31 a.m.

After weathering construction delays that put it months behind schedule, part of the Ann Road interchange project is open.

The interchange opened Monday, allowing motorists to get from U.S. 95 to Ann Road and Rancho Drive without merging through busy highway intersections. A fly-over ramp from southbound U.S. 95 to Rancho is designed to increase safety.

Construction on an overpass at Lone Mountain Road to help east-west traffic cross is expected to begin within 30 days.

The project is five months behind schedule and won't be completed until at least December, Nevada Department of Transportation officials said.

The $15.7 million project was supposed to be completed in June, but the chief contractor, Max Riggs Construction Co., encountered soil problems that took extra time and money to correct.
