Westergard has served as a hearings officer for the board for the past five years and conducted research analysis for the Control Board before that.
The research assistant's post was authorized by the 1997 Legislature, which appropriated $176,604 to cover the salary and other costs over a two-year period.
The nine-member commission will study the social and economic impact of legalized gaming across America. In addition to Bible, MGM Grand Chairman J. Terrence Lanni also serves on the panel.
The federal commission held its first meeting in Washington June 20. At that meeting, two of the gaming industry's leading critics -- Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., and former Sen. Paul Simon, D-Ill. -- urged commission members to examine the evils of gambling during their two-year study.
