State to reinspect troubled Cottonwood Care Center

Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1997 | 12:38 p.m.

The sanctions, the result of an inspection that found substandard staffing resulting in inadequate care for elderly residents, have cost the taxpayer-owned hospital nearly $250,000 in fines.

But C-TH administrator Steve Smith said conditions at Cottonwood have improved. The hospital turned over the facility to a private management firm, Premier Care Health Services of Prescott, Ariz., on Aug. 1.

A state official said a re-inspection is coming, but that regulations call for it to be unannounced.

"Do we expect it to get better? Boy, we sure hope so," added Rick Panelli, acting chief of the Bureau of Licensure and Certification for the state Human Resources Department.
