Sewage spills into LV Wash

Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1997 | 10 a.m.

During Sunday's flash flood, an unknown amount of raw sewage spilled into the Las Vegas Wash from a Clark County Sanitation District pipeline.

The pipeline broke under rushing floodwaters and debris east of Hollywood Boulevard and Russell Road, according to district spokesman Martin Flynn.

Repair crews fixed the pipe Monday, preventing further raw sewage from spilling into the wash leading to Southern Nevada's two drinking water intakes six miles downstream.

The district is working with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection to assess the effect of the spill, Flynn said.
