Construction to begin on expanding Carlin post office

Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1997 | 4:29 a.m.

While that doesn't seem likely, the U.S. Postal Service is taking steps to begin construction on a new facility that will more than double the space of the existing post office.

"Right now we're very crowded," Rose said. "When I took over the postmaster job in 1987 there were 329 rented boxes.

"Right now there are 1,400 rented boxes. I have 68 vacant ones and they are going rapidly."

Bob MacGill, a postal service real estate specialist, said the agency has an option to purchase 1.2 acres for a new facility and plans to award a construction contract later this week.

The new post office should be completed next spring, he said.
