Commission suggest county reinstate gas tax
Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1997 | 4:27 a.m.
The commission voted 2-1 to recommend the action after being told that the county could lose precious highway funding unless the tax was imposed.
Commission member John Chachas voted against the proposal, saying the county commission allowed a previous gas tax to sunset.
"We did sunset it, but we didn't promise we would never do it again," noted RTC Chairwoman Carol McKenzie.
Commissioner Randy Conner, an Ely city councilman, also voted in favor.
