Letter: UNLV computer courses for seniors more than $5
Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997 | 5:33 a.m.
I was interested, so I drove to UNLV to inquire about this bonanza. Here is the story.
Computer course: $5. Parking permit: $15. Graduate student association: $8. Internal programs: $2. Recycling: $1. Books: about $70. Total: $101.
My vision blurred and my knees were wobbling as I left the premises. This is like the guy who had a coupon for a free hamburger. When they handed him the hamburger, he asked, "Don't I get a bun and some mustard?" "Sure," replied the cook, "the bun is 30 cents and the mustard 20 cents. Now, if you want onions for 20 cents; pickles for 25 cents; lettuce, 25 cents; and tomatoes, 30 cents; that's $1.50 total."
Across the street, he could see a sign that advertised 99-cent hamburgers with the works.
The moral of this story: Be careful of anything free.
