Letter: McDonald should do right and resign officer post
Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997 | 5:33 a.m.
No one, not even a fine specimen such as McDonald, can work an efficient 80-hour work week.
Something's gotta give.
So far, that something that's been giving is the taxpayers, who are paying $56,000 per year for McDonald to have a personal assistant, a luxury only afforded the mayor, not the councilmen.
Councilman McDonald's personal assistant Rick Henry is a great guy, but no one elected Rick to be a shadow councilman at taxpayers' expense.
We elected Mike, and only Mike, to represent Ward 1.
Maybe if McDonald also resigned his police officer job and devoted full time to the City Hall job, the citizens of Ward 1 would get a better bite of the apple, and save the taxpayers $56,000 per year to boot.
