Rock plus glee equals Seven Mary Three
Friday, Aug. 1, 1997 | 2:22 a.m.
Four guys on a "long, long road trip" for two years doing what they love ... playing rock-and-roll music.
This is the theme of "RockCrown," the album by Seven Mary Three, which will be performing at 8 tonight at The Joint at the Hard Rock. Opening for 7M3 -- Seven Mary Three, for short -- will be the Cumbersome Rockers.
7M3 formed in 1992 in Williamsburg, Va., while lead guitarist Jason Pollock was attending college.
Two years later they released their first independent album called "Churn," which led to their signing with Mammoth Records. Using some of their older tunes from "Churn, " 7M3 recorded their hit album "American Standard" in September, 1995.
Once they started their national tour they produced the single "Cumbersome," from the "American Standard" album, which went No. 1 on Billboard magazine's rock chart for five weeks in '95.
The band toured nonstop for a year while the "American Standard" album went gold, becoming No. 24 on the Billboard Top 200. Eventually, it went platinum.
After the exhausting tour 7M3 took a few months off in New Orleans to prepare for their latest album, "RockCrown," which was released in June. The album was constructed around the theme of four guys (the band) on a long road trip, holding together with the two things they really care about: love and luck.
Tickets for the 7M3 concert are $12 and are available at the box office of the Hard Rock hotel-casino or at any Ticketmaster location. The Hard Rock's hours are noon to 8 p.m. and are extended to 9 p.m. on concert days. For more information, call 693-5066.
