Chutes fail in jump near Jean, Nev.
Friday, Aug. 1, 1997 | 9:01 a.m.
Clark County Fire Department spokesman Bob Leinbach said the man was an experienced skydiver from the Las Vegas area. He was photographing a tandem skydiving maneuver on a jump that began above 10,000 feet.
Leinbach said the first parachute malfunctioned and the diver tried to deploy a reserve chute, which became entangled in the first one.
The victim's body was found by a volunteer member of the Goodsprings Fire Department a mile from a designated drop zone, near the Jean airport.
The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of relatives.
