Venetian developer filed suit against Culinary Union
Monday, April 21, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
"Our employees should be able to decide for themselves if they want to go union," said William Weidner, LVSI president and chief operating officer.
The complaint filed in U.S. District Court claims the union violated a section of its agreement that states, "neither the union collectively nor employees individually will engage in ... any form of economic action or interference with the employer's business ..."
The suit says the union has violated the fair dealing covenant by applying political pressure to delay or deny necessary licenses, permits and approvals in an effort to force LVSI to recognize the union as the collective bargaining representative for future Venetian employees.
The resort is being built on the site of the old Sands Hotel.
