Royster confirmed that Gans, a former minor-league baseball player who has a popular act at the Rio, had signed a one-game contract with the Stars and that the team had received approval from the league to add an extra player for Tuesday's game against the Vancouver Canadians at Cashman Field.
However, Royster said that the final approval for Gans playing with the Stars would have to come from the San Diego Padres, the Stars' major-league affiliate.
"(The Stars' front office) told me that it has been approved by the league and I told the Padres (Saturday) night and they said they were going to have to check and see what their liabilities are," Royster said Sunday night from Edmonton, where the team concluded up an eight-game road trip.
"If (the Padres) don't approve it, I can't do it."
Stars general manager Don Logan was out of town Sunday and could not be reached for comment.
