St. Rose Dominican Hospital has been selected to participate in a national program to collect consumer product injury data for the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The Henderson hospital will be the only facility in Nevada taking part in the program and one of only 100 hospitals nationwide.
"With the addition of the NEISS (National Electronic Injury Surveillance System) at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, we will now assist in tracking product-related injuries, providing valuable data for injury researchers in making the marketplace safer for consumers," said Rod Davis, president and chief operating officer of St. Rose.
"We're in this business because we care about people. And if we can help to stop accidents before they occur, rather than treat the victims after the fact, so much the better."
The NEISS system will allow Consumer Product Safety Commission staff to determine hazardous patterns in injuries, which could lead to their prevention.
The commission was created in 1972 under the Consumer Production Safety Act. Its objective is to reduce the 29.4 million injuries and 21,400 deaths each year associated with recreational activities or consumer products.
To report a dangerous product or a product-related injury, call the CPSC at (800) 638-2772 or the teletypewriter at (800) 638-8279.
Hazardous products can also be reported via the Internet at info@CPSC.gov.
