Fannie Mae's HouseNevada is a five-year, $5 billion investment partnership to provide affordable housing opportunities for 50,000 Nevada residents.
"Fannie Mae's $1.4 billion private investment in Nevada's housing market is a clear sign of our state's tremendous economic growth and continued prosperity," Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., said in a news conference Monday to celebrate HouseNevada's first anniversary.
Sen. Richard Bryan, D-Nev., Reps. John Ensign, R-Nev., and Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., and Las Vegas Councilman Gary Reese also attended the news conference at the Desert Pines Townhomes.
All 204 units at Desert Pines will be rented to households earning less than $27,760 and to people with special needs.
"Fannie Mae has taken a huge interest in assisting those in our state who traditionally have had difficulty obtaining affordable housing," Ensign said. "They have identified the unique housing needs in our cities and rural areas and have designed realistic ways to meet those needs."
