Tafelmusik Orchestra to play at Ham Hall
Friday, April 11, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
The performance is part of a nine-day concert tour. The orchestra, under the direction of Jeanne Lamon, will play a program of early classical music, featuring symphonies by Vanhal (Symphony in B-flat major) and Haydn (Symphony No. 49 in F minor, "Las Passione").
The program opens with a "Sinfonia Para Pequena Orquesta" by the Mexican composer Antonio Sarrier, believed to be the first symphony ever composed in America. It was discovered in a box of music papers in the archives of the Las Rosas Conservatory in Morelia, Mexico.
Also included on the program will be the Simphonie Concertante for Violin and Viola in D major by Johan Stamitz and the Concerto for Violoncello in D major, G. 479, by Luigi Boccherini.
Members of the Tafelmusik Orchestra, violinist Linda Melsted, violist Elly Winer and cellist Christina Mahler will be featured soloists.
Tickets are $12.50 at UNLV's Performing Arts Center box office and Dillard department stores. The box office is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
For ticket information, call 895-3801. For tickets from Dillard's, call (800) 654-9545.
