Letter: Union ad for nuke dump out of touch with Nevada
Friday, April 11, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
Poll after poll have shown that Nevadans do not support nuclear waste being brought to and stored in Southern Nevada. We are a right-to-work state, but we have strong union ties. I question if the rank and file of those unions listed have actually been polled. Southern Nevada is booming, and nuclear waste certainly isn't needed to bring economic benefits. Instead, it will have a negative impact on our major industry, tourism.
Nevada's Sens. Bryan and Reid have consistently and emphatically voted the wishes of Nevadans. We are proud of their efforts, especially in the face of special-interest groups that appear to have unlimited dollars to place ads like these. We are grateful that our two senators are willing to stand their ground on behalf of all Nevadans. Please consider why this ad was placed and run outside of the state. Did they think their neighbors and friends wouldn't see it?
I want you to know that we live and work in Nevada and we do not support the nuclear waste bill. Please do not be fooled into thinking that this ad speaks for us.
