Attasanis featured on LVMS short oval

Former stock car racing champion Dick Attisani and his son, Richie, will compete in a pair of divisions Saturday night when stock car racing returns to the 3/8ths-mile paved oval at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The elder Attisani, who won titles at the old Craig Road Speedway in 1978, 1979 and 1981, will return to power his newly-purchased Oldsmobile Cutlas in Late Model while his son will power the Coors Chevrolet Beretta in the Grand American Modified division. The younger Attisani captured the Grand American championship in 1995.

Gates open at 5 p.m., with racing at 7. Also scheduled is the first running of the Checker Auto Parts American Race Truck Series. Rounding out the program will be Limited Late Models and the Legends division.

On Sunday, a host of the area's top drag race performers will compete in the 1997 National Performance Center ET Series. Eliminations begin at 1 p.m.
