1940 - Jimmy Demeret won the Masters golf tournament by four strokes over Lloyd Mangrum.
1946 - Herman Keiser defeated Ben Hogan by one stroke to win the Masters golf tournament.
1951 - Ben Hogan won the Masters golf tournament by two strokes over Robert Riegel. Hogan, trailing by one stroke at the start of the final 18, shot a 4-under-par 68.
1956 - Joe Grabowski scored 29 points and Paul Arizin had 26 as the Philadelphia Warriors beat the Fort Wayne Pistons 99-88 to win the NBA championship in five games.
1963 - Jack Nicklaus, at age 23, became the youngest golfer to win the Masters golf tournament, beating Tony Lema by one stroke.
1985 - New Jersey's Herschel Walker rushed for a USFL-record 233 yards, leading the Generals to a 31-25 victory over the Houston Gamblers. Walker also broke his USFL record for the longest run from scrimmage with a 88-yard run on his second carry of the game.
1993 - The Ottawa Senators set an NHL record of 38 straight road losses with a 7-3 defeat at Hartford.
