Reid seeks Hawthorne land deal
Monday, April 7, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
"The military no longer needs the property, and Hawthorne could benefit from commercial or industrial development in the area," Reid said.
Under the proposal, the county would acquire ownership of a 33.1-acre section of land commonly known as the Schweer Drive Housing Area at the depot.
Reid said the military no longer needs the land because housing facilities are nearly demolished after downsizing at the depot.
The senator noted Mineral County's economy was adversely affected by the elimination of the depot's ammunition production mission.
