Metro police seek clues in man’s death

Thursday, Sept. 19, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

Metro Police are looking for a 49-year-old man who may hold answers to a man's mysterious death in a Las Vegas apartment building.

Authorities believe Ronald Cataldo may have answers for homicide investigators. He is described as a white male, medium height with a "large stomach," police said. Anyone knowing his whereabouts is asked to call police at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.

Metro Police found the dead man at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday inside 3601 Vegas Plaza, said homicide Lt. Larry Spinosa. They were in the process of getting a warrant to search the apartment for clues to the man's identity.

"Before officers were dispatched to the apartment, an attorney from the Reno area had called the Clark County district attorney's office and reported that he had just been called ... and alerted (about the body)," Spinosa said.

Authorities have not said who the initial tipster was, or if that person is considered a suspect in the homicide.

The victim, who was described as a white man with blond hair, appears to have died from trauma to the neck, Spinosa said. A pending autopsy is needed to confirm the cause of death and the man's identity.
