BC will conduct tobacco stings

Thursday, Sept. 12, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

CARSON CITY -- Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa says the Boulder City Police Department has agreed to conduct sting operations to nab merchants who sell cigarettes to minors.

Every state is required to conduct random inspections as a condition to receiving federal grants. So far, 2,700 businesses have been inspected in Nevada.

Del Papa said Wednesday the inspections and consumer education has resulted in a buy rate for tobacco for minors at 27 percent, down from 63 percent in 1994. Boulder City is the latest local government agreeing to conduct undercover buys using minors.
