Bengal basketball boss Boyack abandons post

Citing missed time with his family, Bonanza boys basketball coach Steve Boyack announced he is giving up his coaching duties after four seasons as the Bengals' bench boss.
Boyack, 40, also served last season as head baseball coach at Bonanza. He relinquished that position earlier this summer.
"It's something I've been thinking about since last April," Boyack said Monday. "I've got four kids growing up fast and I've been missing out on a lot of things with them. I want to get more involved with them and their activities. Coaching requires a 100 percent effort, but my kids are the most important thing to me."
Boyack said he informed Bonanza administrators in April he was considering stepping down from his basketball post, but took the summer to make his decision. He said he hopes his assistant, Shawn Sieler, will take over the Bengal basketball program.
Over the summer, Bonanza named former Durango assistant coach Kort Minor as the school's new baseball coach.
"I went into the baseball job knowing I was only going to do that just the one year," Boyack said. "I really was just watching over the program while a permanent coach was found."
Boyack has coached at the high school level for the past 17 years, including the last 11 at Bonanza, where he will continue his teaching duties. He also previously served as head baseball coach at Rancho.
"I'll still be around to help a little," he said, "but I'll be doing it on my own schedule."
