Kincaid in the lead for Commission District B

It looked like a florist had the lead in winning the hearts and minds of County Commission District B voters Tuesday night.
Mary Kincaid was taking a decisive lead over her North Las Vegas City Council colleague in the District B Democratic primary.
With more than half the precincts reporting, Kincaid had 52 percent of the precincts to North Las Vegas Mayor James Seastrand's 31 percent. Former Assemblyman Val Garner was third with 12.6 percent of the vote, and Donald Cleland was trailing with less than 5 percent.
"I hope it keeps up," Kincaid said.
Seastrand said the numbers seemed skewed, thinking there would be higher numbers for him with the number of precincts reporting.
The winner will likely face Republican Gary Davis, the former North Las Vegas municipal judge kicked off the bench for alleged ethics violations. Davis had 58 percent to Dan Williams' 41.6 percent.
The relationship between Davis and the North Las Vegas council over the years has been less than cordial.
"We've had some disagreements," Kincaid said. "I was really interested in seeing the gentleman in the race against Gary put in his $100 filing fee and not do any campaigning at all and still got 42 percent of the vote."
Kincaid said she was already looking at her campaign strategy for the general election.
County Commission Chairwoman Yvonne Atkinson Gates, who had a virtual lock on her primary race, said she looked forward to having another woman commissioner on the board. Kincaid would make the fifth.
"When they had five men on the council, it didn't necessarily run as smooth as it does now," Kincaid said.
