Kemp supports gaming study

"This study can be done without threatening the type of gaming Nevada has had," he told reporters Sunday at Reno/Tahoe International Airport. "If the right people are appointed to the panel, the report will be positive for the people of this country and Nevada."
Sens. Harry Reid and Richard Bryan, both D-Nev., fought the creation of the commission. Nevada casino executives also opposed it.
Kemp, who left Reno after an overnight visit with friends at Lake Tahoe, said he has no stand on federal legislation calling for the location of a nuclear-waste dump site in Nevada.
"I want to talk to Bryan and Reid to find out what Nevada wants before taking a position," he said.
He also attacked President Clinton's handling of federal land-use issues, saying the government must allow private business more access to the land.
"If you look at Nevada and the other Western states, you see that the Clinton administration has waged war through the Environmental Protection Agency and the Interior Department," he said.
