LV Civic Symphony kicks off 20th season with free concert
Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
The season-opener is in honor of the founding musical director, William Gromko, who will guest conduct excerpts from the "Firebird Suite" by Stravinsky.
The symphony program will also include Rossini's "La Gazza Ladra," Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4 in A (Italian), Rachmanivov's Vocalise, Op. 34, No. 14 and Vivaldi's Concerto in C major for Piccolo featuring soloist Jo Raquel Stoup.
Gromko is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music and Columbia University. He has been a professional musician in Las Vegas since 1960 and has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Rochester Philharmonic and the Pittsburgh Symphony.
Gromko also was the founder of the UNLV String Chamber Orchestra and served as its conductor for 12 years.
Admission to the concert is free, but tickets are required to guarantee seating. Call 229-6211 for more information.
