* 'MUSIC FOR TIME' -- The family-oriented music festival will be from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Rainbow Library Amphitheater, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive. Several local artists will be featured, including Atta-Boy Skip, Someone, Melancholics, Rahne, Chamber Seven, Corinthian Flux, Sackcloth, Wail of Sumer and Morgana Athena. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Proceeds benefit Aid for AIDS of Nevada. Sierra Health Services is a sponsor of the event. Call 284-5002 for more information.
* HAVE A BALL -- "The Witches and Warlocks Charity Ball," to benefit the hungry and homeless of Las Vegas, will begin at 10 p.m. Thursday and go to 5 the next morning at the Hippo and the Wild Bunch Nightclub, 4503 Paradise Road. Featured will be Magickal Marissa performing a witches ceremony at midnight, food and drink, live music and dancing, and a costume contest. Tickets are $10. Call 731-5446.
* LUXURY CRUISE -- Lied Discovery Children's Museum has announced a fund-raising raffle drawing for a luxury cruise for two, donated by Crystal Cruises. The 11-day adventure departs Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on March 12. The final destination is Acapulco. Tickets for the drawing, which will be Friday at Caesars Palace, are $10 each or 12 for $100. * 'CANS' FILM FESTIVAL -- So, there's no Palme D'Ore award or celebrities milling about but there will be a "Cans" Film Festival in Las Vegas, Nov. 7. The "Cans" Film Festival is sponsored by ACT III Theatres to benefit local food banks and, for the first time, Boulder Cinemas at Boulder Station is participating in the event. Moviegoers who bring a minimum of three cans of food will receive a free movie ticket. The Boulder Cinemas box office opens daily at 11 a.m., and customer can bring their donations early to receive tickets for later shows. Suggested items include meats, stews and soups. ACT III began the "Cans" Film Festival in 1981, and last year moviegoers across the country donated 250,000 pounds of canned goods.

* SAFE HALLOWEEN -- Sponsorship for this Halloween's fourth annual "Safe Streets Tricks or Treats" has more than doubled from last year. * HONEYBAKED DONATION -- To celebrate the grand opening of their second Las Vegas store, the Honeybaked Ham Co. gave an early holiday gift of $2,500 to the University Medical Center's Children's Miracle Network. Founded in Detroit in 1957, Honeybaked Ham is a family-owned company whose charity activities have always focused on families and children.
* SLOT TOURNAMENT -- Primadonna Resorts Inc., in an effort to help the Durango High School Marching Band, has hired the band to perform at a slot tournament awards banquet at Buffalo Bill's Star of the Desert Arena on Monday. The band will receive $500. The Durango High School Marching Band is collecting funds for a trip to England to perform in the London Parade on New Year's Day. The 110-member band will represent Nevada in the parade, the largest parade held in Europe. The band must raise about $150,000 by December in order to pay for the trip. Anyone interested in donating may call Durango High School at 799-5850, Ext. 225.
Volunteers
* MAGICAL FOREST -- Each and every person at the Magical Forest, from the Forest King to the train conductor to even Santa himself are dedicated volunteers. The forest was completely assembled by volunteers. Why? So that all donations made to the Magical Forest stay at Opportunity Village. Everyone 16 and older are invited to help the Magical Forest. It is in need of greeters, security, concession assistants, Santa's helpers and more. The Magical Forest will be open nightly from Nov. 23 through Dec. 28. A special volunteer day will be held Nov. 9 to decorate the forest. Call 259-3741.
* GOT A GOOD WRAP? -- Opportunity Village is looking for volunteers to man its gift wrap booth from Nov. 11 through Dec. 24 in the Boulevard Mall. For more information, call 259-3741.
* REBUILD HOMES & BRIGHTEN LIVES -- Christmas in April is seeking volunteers in fund-raising, marketing, home inspection and coordinating to assist in rehabilitating the houses of low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners. The program is enacting the old-fashioned barn-raising spirit -- rebuilding America one home at a time. Call 474-2425.
