Fishing report

Wednesday, Oct. 30, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

* LAKE MEAD -- High winds and rain this week put a temporary damper on striped bass fishing and has kept boaters of the water. An abundance of threadfin shad is being seen in coves, so stripers should return to feeding on the bait fish when more moderate weather returns. Anglers are reporting that shad are available in good numbers in Pumphouse Cove. Stripers have been feeding on the fish and angling success has been fair.

* LAKE MOHAVE -- Windy weather and rain has been keeping anglers away from the lake. Prior to the recent storms, striped bass fishing was good for anglers trolling in the Six Mile Cove area.

* ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- The lake's water level continues to be extremely low, which is concentrating fish. No anglers have been seen at the lake this week.

* WAYNE E. KIRCH WILD LIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Winds up to 35 mph swept the area over the weekend and spoiled the trout fishing. Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs were planted with trout on Monday.

* EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Trout fishing has only been fair at the lake as some anglers have been managing to catch a few fish while others have found little or no success. Campers should be prepared for evening temperatures that are plunging to well below freezing.
